At Forest Lodge Public School, we have 7 ensembles:
Junior Choir (from Kindy)
Senior Choir (from Year 3)
Beginner Strings (from Year 2)
Continuing Strings (by audition)
Training Band (from Year 2)
Concert Band (by audition)
Stage Band (by audition)
Opportunities by school year:
Kindy and year 1 students:
Kindy and year 1 students can join our Junior Choir throughout the year. There is no better way to start a musical journey than to sing with others!
If your child is keen to start playing an instrument, I’m happy to help find a private tutor until they’re old enough to join one of our ensembles (see below).
Year 2 students:
In Year 2, students are welcome to join Junior Choir, or they can join our Beginner Strings, provided they take weekly, private lessons as well.
At the very end of Year 2, we organise a tryout session for students interested in joining Training Band the following year.
Year 3 students:
If, at the end of the previous year, a student expressed an interest, they will be invited to join our Training Band. If your child missed out on the tryouts, they can still sign up (and we would love them to!), but the instrument choice might be limited. Weekly private lessons are a requirement for band participation.
Year 3 students are also welcome to join our string program, either in Beginner Strings, or, if a student has already played for a while, they might be able to join Continuing Strings.
And Senior Choir always welcomes new students!
Students in years 4 to 6:
In year 4, Training Banders may be moved to Concert Band, if your conductor thinks you’re ready and will benefit from a more challenging repertoire. Concert Banders may also audition for our Stage Band.
Year 4 to 6 students are also welcome to join our string program, either in Beginner Strings, or, if a student has already played for a while, they might be able to join Continuing Strings.
And Senior Choir always welcomes new students!
