Writing Journal

The Writing Journal is a collection of brainstormed topics.  The journal will be collected towards the end of the marking period and counted as a test/project grade.  Journal assignments will occur about once per week.  Each journal entry must be 200+ words in order to receive full credit.

Marking Period 1.0

Writing Journal: each entry must be 200+ words

1.   My summer vacation.

2.   Describe what you think might happen in the next five years. 

3.  What do you want to be when you grow up?

4.  How do I matter? 

5.  Columbus or Indigenous People's Day?  What are you doing?

6.  Write an origin myth for something: the origin of cell phones, Instacramp, cupcakes, or anything you can imagine. 

7.  What are the people, objects, and values that are important to you?  

8.  Your most interesting Halloween experience...

Marking Period 2.0

Writing Journal: each entry must be 200+ words

1.   What are you thankful for? 

2.    If someone gave you $3000 during Thanksgiving Break, what would you do with it? 

3.  Search for a career and write about it: After Education 

4.  What vice or weakness do you find the most offensive?

5.  Look in the grade-level gclass and respond to the postings of Mr. Lamaestra about drugs and alcohol.  Write your thoughts and feelings about what you learned.

7.  Describe the relationship the writers we studied had with Native Americans.  Do you think any one of them had good relationships, explain how.

8.  If you could change one or two things in the world, what would it (they) be?

Writing Journal: each entry must be 200+ words

1.   Favorite music, movie, game, car, comic/manga... 

2.   John Lewis: watch the Good Trouble Trailer and who is a hero of change to you?

4.  Why is there still racism in America today?

5.  Discuss some conflicts in the world that you are concerned about. 

6.  What is society's responsibility to people suffering hardship: homelessness, floods, fire, poverty...?

7.  NJGPA: positives and negatives

8.   Research a woman who was the first female to work in a traditionally male field.  What kind of struggles do you think she faced?

9.   Of Mice and Men "Chapter 7" What happened to George?

10.  The end is near...are you prepared for 12th grade?

Marking Period 4.0

Writing Journal: each entry must be 200+ words

1.   What role does respect play in your relationships with friends, family and strangers? 

2.   Discuss what making good choices means for one's past, present, and future.

3.   How do you feel when someone judges you without knowing you or giving you a chance? 

4.  Research some topics for Asian Heritage Month: leaders, foods, important places, events... 

5.  Write about something that is making you laugh recently and about some unexpected interests/distractions you have discovered.
