Flight Test Prep Academy is a well-established Part 61 flight school at Long Beach Airport (KLGB) with an immediate opening for an experienced Aircraft Mechanic (A&P or IA) to join its in-house maintenance team.

Position Overview:

This position works as part of a team, reporting to Lead Mechanic (IA) to perform required inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance on piston flight training aircraft with a keen attention to detail, and above all else, an unwavering focus on safety. Primary aircraft to be worked on include DA-40/42, C172, and PA-28. This person is involved in the full life-cycle of maintenance including planning the maintenance scheduling and determining strategic priorities to maximize up time of the fleet, A&D research / compliance, parts research and ordering, troubleshooting, general wrench turning for things like tire / oil changes, 100 hr. and annual inspections, addressing pilot squawks, complete overhauls, maintaining aircraft logbooks and communicating as needed with front office staff to provide status updates / maintenance schedule updates so the aircraft availability schedule is as accurate as can be projected and changes as needed to reflect actual work time, parts lead times / delays, etc.

Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will possess a can-do attitude, will have leadership tendencies and a natural inclination to want to get it done, and will have the skills necessary to help the shop run smoothly while staying organized. The person will also have the ability to adhere to the maintenance and manufacturer manuals with little oversight and remain focused on the task at hand -- not losing sight of the key goal of getting aircraft back on the line efficiently without compromising safety. This person will plan their work, seek input on that plan, modify it as needed, and execute the plan all while staying nimble enough to accept inevitable curve balls and challenges as they arise without getting discouraged - in other words, this person understands aviation and always looks to be part of the solution. Lastly, this person should have a healthy respect for the need to always be learning and growing as a mechanic and as a team member.
