Kindergarten students will be introduced to, explore, and experiment with a wide variety of art media. Students will respond to and create works of art that emphasize all of the elements of art, as well as principles of design that include pattern, balance, and repetition. Students will begin to connect artmaking to a larger, shared purpose that has existed over time and place. They will work individually as well as collaboratively with peers.
1st grade students will explore and experiment with a wide variety of art media. They will be introduced to new media as well as engage with familiar media through new techniques and processes. Students will respond to and create works of art that emphasize the elements of art (line, shape, color, form, texture, and space) as well as principles of design (include pattern and proportion). They will work individually as well as collaboratively with peers. Students will consider how artists share their work and explain their artistic choices and interests.
2nd grade students will continue to explore and experiment with a wide variety of art media. They will be introduced to new media as well as engage with familiar media through new techniques and processes. Students will respond to and create works of art that emphasize the elements of art of line, shape, color, form, texture, space, and value, as well as principles of design that include repetition, pattern, rhythm, and balance. They will connect artmaking to their community as well as different purposes, time and places.
3rd grade students will continue to explore and experiment with a wide variety of art media. They will be introduced to new media as well as engage with familiar media through new techniques and processes. Students will respond to and create works of art that emphasize the elements of art of line, shape, color, form, texture, space, and value, as well as principles of design that include repetition, pattern, balance, emphasis and unity. They will explore diverse concepts such as history, portraiture, museums, landscapes, and still lifes. They will connect artmaking to their home and school communities. They will present their artwork and experience criticism and feedback.
4th grade students will continue to explore, experiment with, and demonstrate skill over a wide variety of art media. They will be introduced to new media as well as engage with familiar media through new techniques and processes. Students will respond to and create works of art that emphasize the elements of art of line, shape, color, form, texture, and space, as well as principles of design that include repetition, pattern, balance, emphasis, and rhythm. Students will explore diverse concepts such as popular culture, perceiving and making meaning. They will infer information about an artworks time, place, and culture using visual analysis.
