Activity of the week is a calm down bottle! A great tool for emotional regulation, as you can shake it up and then watch the glitter as you calm down. With this bottle the glitter goes to the top instead of the bottom! Here’s how to make it:

**This activity requires adult assistance

1. Peel the label off a bottle. Use Goo Gone to make it less sticky.

2. Fill the bottle about half full with baby oil.

3. In a separate container, combine about 12 drops of food coloring with enough water to fill the rest of the bottle.

4. Add about a half of a teaspoon of glitter to the bottle, on top of the oil.

5. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with the colored water. Leave about 3/4” at the top for air, or you won’t be able to shake it.

6. You can hot glue or super glue the lid shut if you want, or put tape around it so your little one won’t open it.

7. Shake vigorously.

8. It’s ready to use! You might consider keeping it somewhere safe so your kid knows it’s a tool and not a toy, so when they need it it has more of an effect!

Activity of the week is Bucket Filling! This is a great way to talk about what members of your family are doing to “fill each other’s buckets” with things like kind words, helpful gestures, and being a good listener when asked to do something. There are so many activities you can do with this at home, but we recommend starting with a glass jar that adults can fill with items of your choice (shells, stones, acorns, whatever) whenever you catch someone else filling someone’s bucket! This provides immediate and concrete reinforcement, which can be very motivating. There are several books that go with this program, so here are a few in case you want to check them out! There are also loads of videos on YouTube to get you started with this!

For today’s activity, let's talk about calm kits! You can take this with you or keep it in the car so you’ll have it wherever and whenever you might need it. Here are 40 ideas to get you started, but I recommend talking to your child and asking them what they think will help them. They know themselves best!
