Art

Here are some ideas to keep you creative.

Art Kits pick up this week 11:00 - 3:00pm at the CMCA

Have fun creating your own ornament! Use the template from your "Art Lesson" (K-2) sheet, or create your own using slightly thick paper you have at home. Junk mail, scrapbooking paper, old cards, extra photographs, or painted paper are all great options to make a unique ornament. For this ornament I used six 3" circles, a 12" length of yarn, four pony beads and a glue stick. Let me know if you need yarn , beads or paper supplies.

ABC ART CHALLENGE

ABC Art Challenge

This art challenge is to draw, paint, or create something for every letter of the alphabet. This challenge is meant to engage you in some fun all summer long. Think about your interests and how to connect them to this challenge. If you chose to apple for the letter "A", you could paint with watercolor like I demonstrate. Or, you could make an apple pie. Some possible ways to create are: drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, photography, sculptural, needlepoint, crocheting, or cooking. There is no limit to how you can create for each letter of the alphabet. You may explore many techniques, or stick with one. Have fun!

Paint a Kindness Rock

This week's art challenge is to paint a kindness rock. A kindness rock is a rock you paint then give it to or leave it for someone. Think about someone that would benefit from a little kindness.

Supplies

  • smooth, clean rock
  • acrylic paint
  • mixing tray
  • paint brush
  • water cup
  • paper towel
  • sharpie

Make a kite

This week's art challenge is to make a kite from materials you have around the house.

Supplies

  • paper, plastic bag, tissue, wrapping paper, etc.
  • string
  • scissors
  • glue
  • tape
  • sticks, straws, dowels, etc
  • items to decorate (ribbon, tissue, stickers, paint, markers, etc.)

Recreate a Famous Painting Challenge

Choose a famous painting to recreate. Use materials from around your house to create the painting. This challenge I first saw posted by the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. Search different museum websites to get an idea of what painting you'd like to recreate. Some people chose to do a sculpture using household objects that would be fun to do as well. Enjoy and be creative!

Theme Drawing Challenge

Choose a theme. It could be something you observe or a favorite subject (cars, turtles, animals, etc.). Draw your subject in as many different ways as possible. You may use color, pattern, size, style, type, or point of view in order to create variations of the theme.
