How does an ELO fit in my schedule?
Students will work with the ELO coordinator and/or their community mentor to schedule a time outside of their normal classes. Often students will participate during study halls, afterschool, or on the weekends.
Do I get credit for participating in an ELO?
Students may get up to 1 credit towards applied academics credits.
0.5 Credits: Student participates in an internship/mentorship for 50-101 hours.
1 Credit: Student participates in an internship/mentorship for 102+ hours.
Placement is not guaranteed.
Placements are dependent on community and student availability. While we have a lot of wonderful community members who would love to help guide students into this next phase in their life, we can't guarantee there will be an opportunity for each student. We can always revisit ELOs in later semesters.
We can't force a business to work with us or host a student, so it is largely dependent upon availability.
Can I participate in an ELO in the summer and still get credit?
Yes! With all the spare time students have, the summer is a perfect time to gain ELO credit.
Go see the ELO Coordinator if you think your summer experience should count as an ELO credit.
Are ELOs Paid?
Some are! It depends on the business/organization.
If this is important to you, we have other options for students to get paid for their work.
Can I come up with my own ELO?
Yes! Students are encouraged to be creative and to foster their own experiences!
