Event Format: The event is flown in three standard rounds, each with a maximum flight duration of 180 seconds. If needed, the 1st flyoff round is flown with a max of 300 seconds and the 2nd flyoff round is flown with unlimited time. The models do not have to be recovered/returned
Power Class: Competitors fly in the 2.5 N-sec(A) power class, applicable for both Seniors and Juniors.
Scoring: The score is determined by summing up the duration of the three flights during the standard rounds. In case of a tie for medal positions, a flyoff round serves as a tiebreaker.
Model Limit: Participants are allowed to enter a maximum of two models for the three standard rounds. An additional model may be entered for the flyoff round if necessary.
Vehicle Construction: There are many ways to design a S4 rocket including:
Pop-up elevator
Pop-down canard
Slide pod, motor shift
Swing wing
Adjustable wing flaps
Slide wing (partial travel, full travel)
And many more, check out Chris Flanigan's video on S4 for more information.
Tips for Recovery: Since recovery is very important for multi-round (you have 2 models for 3 flights), add some bright colors or markings to the model.
