Q: What is herds?
A: Herds (herdsmanship) is sort of a cleaning competition at fair. We take turns (shifts) sweeping in front of the pens, aisleways, and greeting people walking by. We then have a chance to earn a banner and be NWJLS herdsmanship winners!
This is where you'll find the basic responsibilities of those who are on a herds shift.
Expectations if you are on a herds shift:
You must sweep/clean around your area THE WHOLE TIME you are on the shift! The goal is to keep our area the cleanest.
You cannot trade shifts with anybody. Your shift is your assigned shift.
You can eat before/after the shift, but not during.
Make sure to be greeting people at all times. A simple "Hello, how are you?" to strangers passing by is just enough.
It is all worth it in the end! It is also a chance to talk to some possible buyers or sponsors at the fair!
