STEM is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In this class, students have the opportunity to engage with the world around them. We focus on the Next Generation Science Standards Science and Engineering Practices. These practices support students in all areas of academics and real life. STEM provides students opportunities to create, explore, investigate, and make lasting meaning and learning. In our class, we will engage in a monthly STEM challenge. Additionally, STEM engineering challenges will be provided for students to take home. These tasks will consist of materials that can commonly be found in the home. They are a great way to get involved and learn together. Students in this class are all scientists, technicians, engineers, and mathematicians!
The STEM engineering challenges will implement the design process wherein students will ask questions and find solutions through imagining, planning, creating, improving, and asking questions again. This process supports critical thinking and collaboration.
