Want to LEARN by DOING? This two-period course allows students to gain hands-on experience in a chosen occupation or Career Cluster (several occupations within a Career Cluster) over the course of a trimester. One credit is earned for the seminar component of the course. During this part of the course, students will investigate work-related topics including employer and employee responsibilities, workplace skills, and planning for career and educational opportunities. Students will develop a professional portfolio containing evidence of knowledge and skills gained during the seminar course. During the internship component of the course, students will work closely with a mentor to receive instruction and guidance at the work site. Depending on the assigned work site, the student will either follow a hands-on training plan, or will shadow a professional in the designated field, in order to gain first-hand knowledge of the career path. A training agreement outlining the expectations of the internship experience must be signed by the student, parent(s), employer, and the work-based learning coordinator. Students may or may not be paid for the internship and must provide their own transportation to the work site.
