Within the scope of the research project ChromAz – The Chromatic Journey of the Portuguese Azulejo, the Museu Nacional do Azulejo presents a showcase of how the colour palette of our tile heritage was achieved between the 16th and the 18th century. Combining the scientific analysis of artwork with the study and replication of historical recipes, the research addressed the production of pigments, focusing on the factors that allowed the different colours and the variety of hues observed to be obtained.
