The Vale de Milhaços Gunpowder Factory (VMGF), classified since 2012 as a monument of public interest, comprises the Gunpowder Production Circuit. The original installations of the Gunpowder Circuit date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the factory operated until 2001.

In 2001, the Seixal Municipal Ecomuseum (EMS) took over the VMGF buildings and equipment, which were donated by the owners, Sociedade Africana de Pólvora. This included production machinery, equipment, tools and over two dozen buildings. These facilities are distinctive for their architectonic and construction characteristics, as well as their industrial function and integrated equipment.

The VMGF includes a telodynamic cable system of over 500 meters, that ensures the transmission of mechanical energy from the central building to the gunpowder workshops. Additionally, there is a Decauville type railway line of 1100 meters, which allowed the movement of raw materials and products in wagons pushed by workers.

The steam generator and machinery are operational and are run by a former worker of the VMGF who acts as both boilerman and machinist.
