Vocal Ensemble Developing (Beginning Choir)
Prerequisite – None
Many types of contemporary choral music as well as choral music from the major periods of musical history will be prepared for performance by students in this class. Students will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate healthy vocal technique. Students will also have the opportunity to develop music literacy through a systematic approach to sight-reading. Performances are required!
Vocal Ensemble Intermediate (Advanced Choir)
Prerequisite – Pass VMI with an 80% or higher and a Teacher Recommendation (audition process)
Many types of contemporary choral music as well as choral music from the major periods of musical history will be prepared for performance by students in this class. In addition to what was learned in the previous level of Vocal Music, students will be able to identify and describe elements of music theory. Students will also be given the opportunity to perform individually, in small ensembles, and in large groups. Performances are required!
Vocal Ensemble Accomplished (Advanced Choir)
Prerequisite – Pass VMII with an 80% or higher
Many types of contemporary choral music as well as choral music from the major periods of musical history will be prepared for performance by students in this class. In addition to what was learned in the previous level of Vocal Music, students will have the opportunity to achieve an artistic expression of the composers’ intent. Students will also have the opportunity to listen critically to live and recorded performances. Since this is an honors level class, an extra honors project will be added to meet the honors requirement. Performances are required!
Vocal Ensemble Advanced (Advanced Choir)
Prerequisite – Pass VMIII with an 80% or higher
Many types of contemporary choral music as well as choral music from the major periods of musical history will be prepared for performance by students in this class. In addition to what was learned in the previous level of Vocal Music, students will be able to explore personal creativity through composition, improvisation, and written reflection. Since this is an honors level class, an extra honors project will be added to meet the honors requirement. Performances are required!
Music Appreciation/General Music
Prerequisite – None
This course introduces students to the history, theory, and genres of music. The course explores the history of music, from the surviving examples of rudimentary musical forms through to contemporary pieces from around the world. Students will be given the opportunity to listen critically to live and recorded performances. While listening to such music, students will also explore personal creativity through basic composition, improvisation, and written reflection.
