Solfege – is a system where every note of a scale is given its own unique syllable, which is used to sing that note every time it appears.

Step – The distance between two notes that are side-by-side or next to each other. (Example: DO is a step away from RE since they are right next to each other)
Leap or Jump – The distance between two notes that are NOT side-by-side or next to each other. (Example: DO is a jump or leap away from MI since they are NOT right next to each other. This is true with all notes that are not directly next to DO)
