Schoology
Assignments, due dates, and class announcements will be updated on a regular basis in each of your student’s classes using Schoology. Each teacher has a personal Schoology page for class instructional information and homework. Students will have access to this page within the first week of school. More information - including parent account support - can be found on the FCPS Website: LINK.
Completing & Turning in Assignments:
It is expected that all students will turn in assignments the day that they are due. All assignments for any and all classes should be seen in the Schoology calendar located in the upper right corner of the Schoology page. If keeping track of assignments is challenging, writing them down in a planner can be very helpful.
Make sure all work contains student name, class period, and date.
All answers must be written in complete sentences unless told otherwise. This is an expected practice for real-world communication.
Due Dates are the planned dates that an assignment is required to be completed to receive full credit.
Deadlines are the final dates an assignment is accepted for credit unless special permission is granted by the teacher. Submissions will be accepted for credit up to 5 school days after the due date.
Work submitted after the due date, but before the deadline, may be penalized by reducing the earned grade by up to a maximum of one letter grade (no more than 10% deduction). Teachers have discretion to apply the penalty and lower the grade accordingly.
Work submitted after the deadline can be used to inform instruction but will NOT count for credit and will be recorded in the gradebook at a 55% (on a 100 point scale)
Make Up Work:
It is expected that students will make every effort to come to class each and every day. If a student is absent for any reason, it is his or her responsibility to get any notes, assignments, or handouts that may have been missed from their instructor or peers. All handouts can be found in the weekly assignment folders in Schoology. Students will be given the same number of days they were absent plus one extra day to complete makeup work.
TMS Grading:
Grading follows FCPS Regulation 416-01 Grading, Reporting, and Intervention and students will receive letter grades.
FCPS and TMS utilize Equity in Grading practices. Students have the ability to demonstrate mastery of their learning in all content areas. Once students have submitted assignments and teachers have evaluated work providing feedback, students may want, or need, to have an opportunity to be reevaluated on a particular skill. Students will be allowed one reassessment submission per assignment. Teachers may share with students appropriate options for relearning and demonstrating readiness for reassessment, but it is up to the student to assume responsibility for relearning and providing evidence of readiness by the date designated by the teacher. Options for relearning may include, but are not limited to, evidence of review at home with a family member, verbal or written correction of formative learning, completion of a review guide, or tutoring with the teacher (if the teacher feels explicit reteaching is necessary).
Gradebook communication for late and missing work:
A 50% will be entered into the gradebook to communicate that an assignment has not been completed or submitted. This replaces the zero. In addition to the 50% entered in the gradebook, a teacher will add the following comment: “This assignment has not yet been submitted for a grade.”
A 55% will be entered into the gradebook to communicate that an assignment was completed, but earned a score that was lower than a 55%. Work submitted after the deadline can be used to inform instruction, but will not count for credit and will be recorded in the gradebook at 55%. In addition to the 55% entered into the gradebook, the teacher will add the following comment: “This assignment falls below mastery of the standard that was assessed. You have the opportunity to re-do this assignment. Please contact me to discuss your options.”
Interims and Report Cards
Interim reports are published for each TMS student during the 5th week of the term for those students with failing grades. All interims will be available digitally through HAC. Report cards are given to students to share with parents/guardians about two weeks following the end of each nine-week term. All students receive a report card. Distribution dates are listed in the FCPS Calendar Handbook. Parents/guardians who have not received their report card or interim report are asked to contact the school. Please make sure that your current address is always up-to-date as the school will use the most current address to mail your student’s report card for Term 4 only.
