A mood board (also called an inspiration board) is a visual plan for your project. It helps you gather ideas before you start a creative project. It is a collection of images, colors, words, and fonts that show the look, mood, and style you want your project to have. Your mood board will help guide your creative choices as you work.
Photographers should make mood boards because:
Photographers make mood boards to turn ideas and inspiration into planned, meaningful photographs.
They will help you plan, focus, and create stronger photos.
They let you think through your ideas instead of guessing while taking photos.
They help to keep your photos consistent. Using the same colors, lighting styles, and moods helps your photos look like they belong together.
They give you creative direction. When you get stuck, your mood board reminds you of the look and feeling you’re trying to create.
They help you make better choices. A mood board guides decisions about subject, composition, lighting, outfits, and editing.
They connects ideas to action. You turn inspiration into intentional photographs instead of random images.
