I can statements:
I can identify the document window in Photoshop.
I can explain that the document window is where I view and edit my image.
I can open and switch between multiple document tabs.
I can tell the difference between the image and the canvas.
I can zoom in and out of an image without changing its quality.
What is the DOCUMENT WINDOW?
The Document window is the large area in the center of the interface where the image is displayed. It's also where we edit the image. The actual area where the image is visible is known as the canvas. The dark area surrounding the image is the pasteboard. The pasteboard doesn't really serve a purpose other than to fill in the space around the image when the image itself is too small to fill the entire Document window:
DOCUMENT TAB
What is the DOCUMENT TAB?
At the top of the Document window is the document's tab. The tab displays the name and file type of the document ("AdobeStock_145722872.jpeg") and its current zoom level (25%). The tab is also how we switch between document windows when we have more than one image open in Photoshop.
Document Window vs. Workspace
Students often confuse these.
Document Window = image area
Workspace = document + panels + tools
📌 The document window is only one part of the Photoshop interface.
Canvas vs. Images
Students must understand the difference:
Image = the artwork or photo
Canvas = the workspace/background around the image
Canvas facts:
Canvas can be larger than the image
Changing canvas size does not stretch the image
Transparent areas show as a checkerboard pattern
📌 Canvas size is adjusted separately from image size.
