What are Layers in Photoshop?
You can think of layers as transparent panes of glass stacked on top of one another, which allow different parts of each layer to show through.
Layers allow you to work on one part of an image without affecting the others. Think of layers as sheets of acetate (clear plastic) stacked one on top of the other. Where there is no image on a layer, you can see through to the layers below.
Layers are displayed in the Layers Panel, which is usually at the bottom right of your Photoshop work area. You can also display the Layers panel by going to Window > Layers in the Menu bar.
