The Word Wizard program is part based, utilizing a system of prefixes, suffixes, affixes, and roots to enable students to better decode new words that they may encounter in their reading. The structure of the program in this class will be:
- Day 1 - Students' warm-up will be to familiarize themselves with the new lists' roots and formulate any questions that they may have. (The teacher will be available to answer questions during ELT and conferences, as well.)
- Day 5 (by 10 PM) - Student demonstration of study is due in Google Classroom. Students may choose to:
- do the traditional Word Wizard homework (format below),
- locate a high-relevance example (paragraph) with citation for each root,
- or compose a coherent story using at least one word from each root.
- Quizzes will be "unlocked" during ELT and on Fridays during class only. Each quiz will be comprised of three lists. Students may retake the quiz up to three times, but the most recent score will always be the score that stands in the gradebook.
- The final day to take a quiz for credit will be "Day 5" of the third list's week. On this day, any student who has not taken the quiz will be required to stop progressing on their skill work and take the quiz during class.
