Unit Summary
Over the course of this unit, we will study the components of a fiction text, including plot, character, conflict, setting, theme, mood/tone, narrative point of view, & symbolism. Students will interact with several different genres and types of texts, including folktales, fairy tales, realistic fiction, and historical fiction. Student products will include graphic organizers, "fractured" retellings of fairy tales, a literary analysis, and an original story.

- Determine the narrative point of view in a fiction text and provide examples to support my assertion.
- Use a plot diagram to outline the important events in a story, including exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
- Explain how the inciting incident in a fiction text is the primary conflict and identify the conflict type.
- "Fracture" a text to switch the protagonist and antagonist, making all necessary adjustments to the plot and conflict.
- Compose an analysis of a fiction text explaining how the author uses story elements to create theme.
- Create my own fiction story with a clear theme, plot, conflict, and narrative point of view.
