Student Engagement & Grading

Budget Challenge provides teachers an effective way to gauge student engagement throughout the simulation. Teachers can choose a variety of ways to evaluate student engagement and to grade students accordingly. Below are some options and alternatives that you might consider.

Student Engagement

Student engagement is based on a philosophy of "learning-by-doing." Even if you lose some points due to mistakes, it is important to keep trying and, in the process, keep learning.
Student engagement = Logging in regularly x Paying bills on time x Taking weekly quizzes

Monitor student performance & participation via Teacher Dashboard.

Grading

Tips:
- Monitor student participation during class and give checkpoint grades
  - Checkpoint: Cash Flow Budget Spreadsheet
  - Checkpoint: Bank Balance / Reconciliation
  - Checkpoint: Credit Card Balance (below $750)
  - Checkpoint: 401k Contribution Reasoning for Percentage
- Grade quizzes on completion, not accuracy
- Trophies
  - There are six trophies (challenges) that students are able to earn throughout the simulation.
  - You may choose to associate a grade with individual trophies or a collection of trophies.
