Cash Flow & Budget Spreadsheet (Google Sheet)

After opening the Cash Flow & Budget Spreadsheet please make sure to File / Make a Copy! You will find a Budget Challenge CFS Directions tab where you will see how to navigate the Cash Flow & Budget Spreadsheet (steps 1-6).

DAY 5-6: Cash Flow & Budget Sheet

The Cash Flow & Budget Sheet will be instrumental in your students success in Budget Challenge. Students will use this Google Sheet to both budget for the duration of the simulation as well as track their cash flow throughout the simulation. It will also serve as a valuable way for you as the teacher to gauge student engagement.

Students will interact with their Cash Flow & Budget Sheet for the duration of the simulation!

What is it?

Two tools in one:

Budget – A plan for your money (for projecting over a long term).
Cash Flow – Tracks money going into and leaving your bank account (for balancing and projecting cash position on a daily basis).

How do you use it?

Using Cash Flow Spreadsheet (insert resource)
Budget:
- Have student project their bills with due date and amount.
Cash Flow / Bank Reconciliation:
- Have students input ALL transactions to reflect bank statement.
Combo:
- Use to budget and reconcile! This has potential to get confusing, consider making a copy of the spreadsheet and doing the budget on one tab and the cash flow on another.

Tips?

Use as a checkpoint:
- Print class leader board with student bank balance
- Have students show their current balance in Cash Flow & Budget Spreadsheet
- Opportunity to help struggling students / Teacher or Peer
Budget Forecast (not required for Budget Challenge)
- Students who may struggle with the Cash Flow & Budget Sheet may benefit from the Budget Forecast prior to completing the Cash Flow & Budget Sheet.
