Day 2 Begin Investigation
Entry event activity on processors - Assign one read write copy to you entire class.
Investigate options for the system and begin you proposal
Minimum Spec Recommendation Sheet (Have each group make a copy)
Complete 1 of the recommended systems today
Day 3 Continue Investigation
Warm-up Question for the Day: What makes a computer a computer?
Simple answer: Input, processor, storage, and output
Minimum Spec Recommendation Sheet (Recommendation 1 will be evaluated)
Complete the 2nd recommendation
Day 4 & 5 Investigate and develop proposal
Day 6 Present
Day 1: Intro to computer hardware
Teacher Notes: Sell to the student that the large purchase they will be making today in the future they will need to know what they are buying or the will overpay and purchase something that is JUNK!!! Technology is in everything
Students will brainstorm what a computer will look like in the future: Here is the video they will watch on to get some ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuVHftBiDVw
Objectives of the unit
Describe different methods of purchasing a computer
Interpret information in various hardware specifications
Make informed choices when selecting hardware components
Purchase compatible components required to build a complete computer system.
Present a proposal to a client
** Students will choose a scenario and with a partner develop a proposal. This is designed to be a PBL unit where information should be taught when necessary throughout the unit. Do not teach everything up front, let students investigate and research.
Day 2 - Share with the class and break up your class into 7 teams. Each team will investigate their processor and update their slide.
Share with you investigative partner teams a copy of the minimum spec sheet.
Goal: to complete on of the recommended systems for their client
Day 3
Meet with your teams and evaluate and provide feed back on thier Minimum Spec Recommendation Sheet
Students should finish up recommendation 2
Day 4 & 5 - Students will complete their investigation and design thier proposal and be prepared to present it.
