Teachers my partner students up, but each student is responsible for his/her skateboard.
Monitor student work closely, use the “class” setting in OnShape, and have students check in on their work, often.

Lesson 2.1 Designing the Deck
Designing a Skateboard
We are going to start designing a skateboard today! Have you skateboarded before? Do you own a skateboard? Skateboards are a great place to jump into making your own models in CAD. We will guide you through the steps to make a skateboard and you’ll even get a chance to attach parts and make them spin!
During these lessons you’ll follow pretty specific instructions on how to build the skateboard. However, you will get to modify this board and make it your own by the end of this unit. So, hang on!
2.2 Designing the Trucks
Introduction
Now it’s time to move on to the trucks! Skateboard trucks are where you attach the wheels. Trucks are what allow you to steer the board and grind. You’ll create wheels and bearings and attach them in later lessons, but for this lesson our job is to design some solid trucks.
This section is going to ask you to do some focused modeling so make sure you are reading carefully and paying attention!
2.3 Wheels and Bearings
Introduction
Whoa! What a great looking skateboard you have created! Not only is it starting to look great, but it’s getting pretty close to becoming a skateboard you could actually ride. As I’m sure you can see, we just need some wheels and bearings. So, let’s learn a new technique to make some round stuff!
2.4 Putting It All Together
Introduction
Now that you have built all the parts of the skateboard, it’s time to put those parts together and give them some movement. We are going to introduce a new kind of tab in OnShape called an Assembly. There is an Assembly tab in your document ready for you to put your skateboard together.
2.5 Now Shred!
Introduction
Now that you have built the skateboard and put it all together, it’s time to venture out on your own a little bit! We have provided a selection of activities to help you beef up your skateboard AND your skills in OnShape!
