Regular School Day Hours: 8:30am – 3:10pm
If students are being dropped off late or picked up early, please stop at the security desk in the entrance area, and you will be directed from there to the attendance secretary. If students must leave early for an excused appointment, please pre-arrange early dismissals by emailing and/or calling the attendance line in the morning. This will assist us with a quick dismissal and locating your child. No student will be allowed to leave school during the school day without permission from a parent/guardian or designee.
All visitors are required to sign in. Please stop by the security desk to sign in.
After School Hours: 3:10pm - 4:45pm
All students will be dismissed at 3:10pm and should report immediately to the bus or their assigned destination. All students on campus must be under the guidance/supervision of a teacher/staff member, club supervisor, or athletic coach.
Students riding the late bus must be involved with a school-sponsored activity and are not allowed to leave school property and return to ride the bus.
Athletic practices do not begin until 3:30pm. The gymnasium and unsupervised hallways are off-limits to students during this time period.
Staff will conduct floor sweeps to ensure students are accounted for between 3:10pm and 4:45pm.
After 4:45pm, administrative supervision is NOT provided.
Failure to follow school rules and to behave responsibly during after-school hours may result in a student being required to leave school grounds immediately at the close of the school day. This sanction may mean the loss of the privilege to participate in any and all after-school programs and activities, including sports.
State law mandates that schools conduct regular safety drills, including evacuation/fire, lockdowns/avoid-deny-defend, tornado, and earthquake drills.
The types of drills you will participate in include: fire, lockdown, weather, and earthquake drills. During these drills, or in the event of a real event, students must quickly and quietly evacuate the building or move to a designated location in the school under the supervision of a teacher.
During lockdown/avoid-deny-defend, tornado, and earthquake drills, students must listen to and closely follow all directions from staff. Student and staff safety rely on following directions carefully.
In the event of an actual emergency (non-drill), the parent/guardian will be notified via the FCCPS alert system, and additional information will be provided at that time.
Safety Drills - POLICY EBCB
Working in the science and design labs can be an exciting experience, but it can also be quite dangerous if the proper safety rules are not followed at all times. All students enrolled in a science class perform work in the lab spaces. However, any student may occasionally need to conduct work in one of the lab spaces, even if they are not in a science or design class. Each lab space has clearly stated safety procedures. The student and teacher will review these procedures together before the student begins using the space. Signing of a lab contract form acknowledges that you agree to adhere to the rules outlined for each lab space.
Under adverse weather conditions or other emergencies, Falls Church City Public Schools may open late, close early or remain closed the entire day. In the event of severe weather or other emergencies, school delay or closing information is made available to the public via social media, television, radio stations, www.fccps.org, mass email, and text alerts.
