Falls Church became an independent city in 1948 for the primary purpose of being able to establish its own school system. Meridian High School is the only high school serving the Falls Church City community.
Some Highlights
With a student body of about 900 students in grades 9-12, Meridian High School is one of the smallest public high schools in the Washington Metropolitan area.
Meridian High School has been recognized for Excellence in Education by the Department of Education.
Meridian High School was the first high school in Virginia to offer the rigorous International Baccalaureate program, and today essentially every student in the junior and senior classes takes one or more IB exams.
Approximately 90% of Meridian graduates attend either four-year or two-year colleges.
Vision
At our core, we aim to develop Good People who can accomplish Great Things.
Mission
Our collective mission is to support our children as they move steadily toward being caring, balanced, and open-minded thinkers who continually inquire about the individual and collective roles they play in our global community. We foster an environment where our children are actively learning to serve themselves and others as principled, risk-takers with the responsibility to communicate a bond throughout cultures and generations. Meridian students work to become knowledgeable and reflective citizens connected to the ever-changing world around them.
Equity
Persistently, unapologetically and consistently providing more time, attention, support, effort, resources, advocacy, and energy to those groups who have historically received less.
Howard - 2019
