Your school counselors are here to help. If your counselor is unavailable when you come to the office, see the counseling secretary, who will schedule a time for you to return. Parents/guardians may want to talk with teachers and/or counselors about grades, adjustment problems, course requirements, or other things. Parents/guardians may elect in writing to have their child not participate (to “opt-out” of) academic, career, or personal/social counseling of a generic nature at any time.
Counselors are available to help students:
Problem solve. Sometimes just talking to someone helps make situations clearer.
Discuss feelings and needs: This helps ensure students’ decisions are based on their values.
Explore options: Every problem has more than one solution.
Reach decisions: Students can learn skills for making future decisions on their own!
Plan for post-high school.
Counselors use the following to implement the school counseling program:
Individual and small group counseling
Consultation with parent/guardian, teachers, and other educators
Peer mediation of conflict management
Classroom counseling lessons
Referrals to other services, both in and out of school
The Learning Lounge is available to students in grades 6-12 to study, complete schoolwork, and seek academic assistance from a peer tutor or a teacher.
After school Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 PM until 4:15 PM. Catch the late bus home. No LL on early release days.
Held most Saturdays from 9 AM until 12 PM. No LL on holiday weekends.
The Learning Lounge is held in the MHS Library
Students, teachers, and parents can assign a student to the Learning Lounge:
Use this Google Form to sign up.
The Learning Lounge staff will specifically look for students who are referred by a teacher. If a student who was referred by a teacher does not attend, we will contact the parent and the referring teacher, if necessary.
