Download the PowerSchool App (or log in via the browser) to monitor your Daily Attendance (attendance at school) and Meeting Attendance (attendance at specific classes). You will see Daily Attendance and Meeting Attendance on the Attendance Tab in PowerSchool.
School starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m. Be in class on time every day.
If you arrive after 8:30 a.m., you must sign in at the Main Office. Students who are consistently tardy to school may face disciplinary action.
Your parent/guardian must notify the school before you leave and meet students in the main office. Before leaving campus, sign out in the Main Office. If you return later that day, sign back in.
Missing school can affect your grades, learning, and activities. If you have repeated unexcused absences, the school will contact your family and may schedule meetings to help you get back on track. Continued unexcused absences can lead to additional interventions required by Virginia law.
Your parent/guardian must let the school know before 8:00 a.m., if possible, by:
Call 703...
Email attendancemehms@fccps.org
They should include:
Your name and grade
The date of the absence
The reason you're absent (be specific)
Their name and phone number
Excused Daily Absences
A parent/guardian has notified the office that their student will be absent from school.
Absences may be excused for reasons such as:
Illness
Medical or dental appointments
Family emergencies
Religious observances
Death in the family
School suspension
Unexcused Daily Absences
A parent/guardian has NOT notified the office that their student will be absent from school.
Unexcused Daily Absences are Subject to Administrative Disciplinary Action (detention, suspension, etc.
Unexcused absences include examples such as:
Unapproved trips
Missing the bus
Oversleeping
Non-school related activities
Excused Tardy
Attendance Office/Teacher of record was notified that the student would be late to school (and reasoning meets excused criteria)
Unexcused Tardy
Attendance Office/Teacher of record was not notified that the student would be late to class.
Students who are coded TUN to class are subject to disciplinary action (detention, suspension, etc.) Parent/guardians WILL be notified.
Students are responsible for contacting teachers regarding missing/incomplete assignments and assessments. If able, students can track the course through Schoology.
Excused Absence: Students are eligible to make up any missed formative or summative assessments.
Unexcused Absence: Missed formative and summative assessments cannot be made up.
If you know you'll be gone for three or more school days, complete an Extended Absence Request and get approval before your absence. You're still responsible for completing all missed work.
Follow these steps:
An online pre-approval form must be completed by a parent/guardian.
Upon the completion of this pre-approval form, the student needs to obtain an Extended Absence Form from the main office.
After completing the shaded areas on the form, the student asks each of his/her/their teachers to record grades and assignments in the spaces indicated.
The student asks for the required signatures: teachers, and counselor.
At least 3 days before departure, the student returns the completed Extended Absence Form to the main office for principal’s final approval.
The student receives a copy of the form.
Absences will not be excused unless students are in good academic standing and have followed the request procedure. Students are responsible for making up all missed classwork.
