Bienvenidos! Welcome!
My Classroom Practices:
I’m very basic. Respect and kindness between students and teachers is the most important thing and is demonstrated in several ways. The famous Mexican President Benito Juárez said, “Respect for others is peace,” although what he really said was, “Respeto ajeno es la paz.” But he was right, and that’s the thing to keep in mind. If you wouldn’t want it said or done to you or about you, don’t say it or do it. This goes for your behavior with me and your behavior with your classmates as well. Likewise, if you have the opportunity to say or do something kind, DO IT! It will come back to you.
In my class there are a few simple ways to show respect. You show up on time. You bring a notebook or binder and something to write with. Your cellphone, if you have one, is both OFF andin your pouch. When you have a question, need to use the bathroom, or want to sharpen your pencil, raise your hand.
The reason for this comes back to respect. Respecting yourself and others and allowing everyone, including yourself, the opportunity to learn without distraction. The more we’re able to stay on task and on track, the more time we’ll have at the end of class to play a game or for you to ask me a private question. But if just one student or just a few give in to the impulse to grab attention, everyone gets less effective instruction and that hurts the class overall. Remember: Respectful, Responsible, Safe.
As for me, I promise to show up on time and be focused on our class. I promise to do my best to provide you with the best education I can give you. I promise to listen to you seriously and show you respect. I promise that if you have a good point, I will say so. I don’t have to be right all the time and I prefer it when we both win. I promise to challenge you, support you when you need it, celebrate your victories, call you out on your bad behavior and call home when necessary. Sometimes it’s necessary to call home to tell your folks what a rock star you are and I promise to do that, too. I promise to demand good work from you and to give you the tools to do good work. What you do with the time and tools I give you will be your choice and it will be immediately reflected in your grade.

¡Bienvenidos!
