Student willing to enter or re enter the DLI program at the high school, after having left the program, must do the following:
If the student wants to join the program for the first time or has left the program for more than a year, they must fill out the application for a special program with FCPS (around October/Nov).
If the student left the program the semester prior to a new school year or the student does not show up prior to October 1st of the new school year, students must contact BSHS. The student then will follow step 2.
BSHS will evaluate the student’s records, especially their Math, English and Reading MAP and KAS scores, as well as their middle school class grades. Students must be in the 60 percentile in reading and math on their MAP test. They must score an apprentice or above on their KAS English and math.
If step 2 is met, then BSHS will contact the student and set up a time to take the STAMP test, to find out the student’s proficiency level.
Upon receiving the results of the language proficiency, if the student scores within 1 benchmark level (as determined by FCPS) for a DLI 8th grade student, they will be invited to a short interview by one of our DLI high school teachers.
Final decision will be made after the interview and parents will be informed of the result.
If the accepted applicant is a 10 or 11th grader, the student must meet the benchmark of a 10th grader and be scheduled to take a DLI science and either Spanish 5 (if a 10th grader) or AP Spanish Lang course (if an 11th grader). Those students must take 2 DLI classes his/her senior year, regardless of their score on their AP Spanish language exam.
