In writer's workshop we practice narrative, informational and argument writing. The writers choose their topics, so they get to explore topics that interest them.
Workshop consists of these essential elements - mentor texts, minilessons, independent writing, small group instruction, teacher conferences, and sharing.
We practice the following writing cycle for every piece we write:
generating ideas
gathering
planning
drafting
revising
editing
publishing
celebrating
Our first piece of writing is a personal narrative. Writers will pull inspiration from their own lives to craft a story that also conveys a theme/lesson learned.
I use a points-based system for grading. Writers receive grades for their finished pieces as well as their participation in workshop. Their weekly work in their writing notebooks is also assessed.
Please subscribe to the classroom via the Remind app. I will often push out pictures from the classroom or reminders about deadlines. Remind is also an efficient method of parent/teacher communication if you prefer to text. To sign up, text the class code @fefbc9c to 81010.
I am reusing the code from last year. If you subscribed to my Remind group last year, you are already included in this class.
