In eighth grade the students continue their study of United States history. We begin by examining the Constitution and Bill of Rights. From there, we look at the legacies of George Washington's presidency. The year ends with the Civil War and its aftermath.
Please subscribe to the classroom via the Remind app. I will often push out pictures from the classroom or reminders about deadlines. Remind is also an efficient method of parent/teacher communication if you prefer to text. To sign up, text the class code @hk997ge to 81010.
I am reusing the code from last year. If you subscribed to my Remind group last year, you are already included in this class.
Our second unit is on America's first Constitutionally elected president and the emergence of political parties.
Our third unit is on the peaceful transition of power as the Democratic-Republicans take over for sixteen years.
Other units of study in the 8th grade:
Industrial Revolution
Andrew Jackson's Presidency
Manifest Destiny
Reform Movements
Sectional Conflict
The Civil War
Reconstruction
I use a points-based system for grading. Larger assignments are worth more points, and therefore have more weight. Students will receive rubrics for projects and assessments.
