Drama and Theatre is a course to study if you are passionate about drama. The course accommodates those students who not only wish to learn about drama in terms of performance, but also those who wish to learn more about other aspects of drama, such as practitioners, sound and lighting, stage management, costumes etc. Drama is both practical and academic by nature and as such it can be an asset by setting you apart from other candidates and showing a different range of skills. It is a necessary subject should you choose to do Drama at University.
Learn about different practitioners and companies such as Kneehigh, The Paper Birds, Complicité and Katie Mitchell and how to use their theories to develop your practical work.
Study different styles and genres for performance, for example verbatim and DV8.
Interpret, reinterpret and perform play texts, monologues and duologues.
Explore Hedda Gabler through design, practically and with written assessments in preparation for the Component 3 exam in Year 13.
Complete your Component 1 Reinterpretation assessed performance, along with your Creative Log.
Explore ‘Accidental Death of An Anarchist’ and ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’, both practically and through written assessments in preparation for the Component 3 exam
Complete your Component 2 devised piece using a Practitioner / Theatre Company of your choice, and performance of a text in a style of your choice. These will be performed to an external examiner in the Spring term.
The A Level will be assessed by means of three components:

Reinterpretation of a text using the influence of a theatre practitioner
Component 2: Text in Action (40%)
Devised Performance
Performance of a text
Component 3: Text in Performance (40%)

The Exam Board is Eduqas. Here is a link to the full specification.
You will be expected to take part in and lead certain extra curricular drama activities; specifically running the Drama Clubs for years 5-8
There will be opportunities to go on theatre trips throughout the course.
Even though the course has a written exam, the criterion is that the text is explored in a practical manner to gain further understanding.
You will need to be willing to do independent research on additional practitioners and playwrights.
You will have the opportunity to perform in groups and as individuals.
Drama is not an easy option but it is most definitely a rewarding one!
