Introduction
As pupils begin their Year 8 studies, they are now ready to broaden their learning and build on their accomplishments as they enjoy their last year of Middle School.
Whilst the number of language lessons will remain the same as in Year 7, they will now be distributed over two languages rather than three, in order to allow for some specialisation as linguistic concepts become more complex. Pupils may choose from the following combinations: French & Spanish, French & Latin, or Spanish & Latin. Any international students who require tuition in English to improve their fluency and accuracy will have EAL as a replacement for one of those languages. Those who have Learning Support will only be required to do one language of their choice in order to create time for this to take place.
Besides fun, friendship and enrichment activities, we really want them to enjoy our curriculum, because, after all, each pupil is here to make the best academic progress they can.
This MicroSite gives you an outline of the various topics pupils will be exploring in each subject this academic year and we hope that you will find this informative and interesting. (Please note that the order in which components are taught may vary and we reserve the right to amend and substitute topics should this become advantageous.)
Our academic staff care deeply about teaching and learning and strive to give engaging lessons that will allow their pupils to succeed to the best of their ability. We all hope that every pupil will find something to interest and motivate them in every subject, not just their favourite ones!
All subjects are formally tested in the Summer Examination, which is the week before the May half-term. Other assessments will take place at strategic points throughout the year but will vary per subject.
If you have any questions about course content or progress with regard to a specific subject, then you are encouraged to contact the member of staff who is responsible for that area of the curriculum, as he or she is undoubtedly the expert. Their name and email address is included at the bottom of each page. Should you wish to discuss academic progress more generally, then please contact Miss Caroline Bischoff, Head of Middle School (cfb@farlingtonschool.com) or Mrs SJ Gilbert, Deputy Head on sjg@farlingtonschool.com.
