Last Time Out
Franklin & Marshall continued to show its national prowess a week ago as the Diplomats defeated both McDaniel (w, 19-3) and Ursinus (w, 23-4) by double digits. The wins improved the Diplomats to 9-3 on the year where they are also a perfect 4-0 in Centennial Conference action. Despite the lopsided victories, F&M held its spot at No. 10 in the latest national rankings.
At McDaniel, F&M scored 16 straight goals during the first through third quarters in the eventual 19-3 win. The Diplomats trailed 2-0 just over two minutes into the game, but that deficit did not last for long as the Green Terror scored just once during the final 57:11 of regulation time. Lydia Cassilly led the way with five goals and an assist, while Maddy Birch, Sydney Lowe, and Lauren Pittman all tallied multiple goals. With the help of her two goals, Maddy Birch eclipsed the 100 point mark for her collegiate career. Lucy Rogers and Amelia McCarthy both scored the first goals of their respective careers throughout the CC victory, with Sarah Bowyer, Madison Bray, Gillian Brennan, Lane Lambeth, Abby Gravel, and Sarah Delaney adding their name to the score sheet as well.
Playing at home last Saturday against Ursinus, fourteeen different Diplomats scored throughout the victory while 17 players registered at least one point. That group was highlighted by a career day from Gillian Brennan as she scored three goals and added four assists to reach the 100-point plateau for her career. Abby Gravel led the scoring efforts with four goals, while Lane Lambeth (three goals), Lydia Cassilly (two goals), and Sarah Delaney (two goals, one assist) all rattled the back of the cage multiple times. First-years Julia Carbon and Mia Geignetter both registered the first goals of their careers in front of the home crowd, with Maddy Birch, Liv Cooper, Adde Hollander, Kate McLam, Sydney Lowe, and Megan Bizub all adding to the scoring onslaught. The Franklin & Marshall goalies combined to stop eight of Ursinus' 12 shots on goal, with Alyssa Moran (five saves) and Molly Donatelli (three saves) making multiple stops before Sara DiGiovanni wrapped up the final minutes before the last buzzer.
Last Time vs. Washington College
Playing the Shorewomen on Saturday day a season ago, the then-No. 2 Diplomats found themselves in unfamiliar territory as they trailed Washington College by a 4-1 score after 20 minutes. Nevertheless, F&M certainly flipped the switch from that point on as it outscored the Shorewomen 17-2 over the final 40 minutes of regulation during an 18-6 Centennial Conference win. That win also marked head coach Mike Faith's 150th career victory leading the Diplomats. Faith is the only coach in school history who has eclipsed 100 wins.
Lydia Cassilly led the Diplomats in scoring on Saturday with four goals. O'Shea celebrated Senior Day with four points (3g, 1a) of her own, while Kane, Gillian Brennan, Kate McLam, Marino, and Sarah Delaney all added multi-point afternoons to the team's win. Franklin & Marshall's highest scoring period was the second as it poured in seven goals to turn a 4-1 deficit into an 8-4 halftime advantage. Cassilly and Brennan each scored twice during that period, with Lane Lambeth, O'Shea, and Delaney also getting into the scoring act.
Washington College Preview
The Shorewomen are receiving votes in the latest IWLCA national rankings behind a 6-5, 2-2 CC record. WAC's only other two conference defeats have come against Gettysburg and Haverford who join the Diplomats as the last three remaining undefeated teams in Centennial Conference play. The attack certainly flows through the Shorewomen's Ellie Morrall as she has 36 goals and 11 assists on the year. Abby Laubach, Morgan Sutherland, and Mia Salvatierra have also eclipse the 20 goal mark in just 11 games. Washington College is nearly doubling up its opponents in free-position goals (29-17) and is basically even in draw controls with a slight 147-144 edge in the year. Sydney Wingate has started all 11 games in the cage and is stopping 44 percent of the shots that she has faced.
