Franklin & Marshall went 2-1 during a busy week, defeating Catholic and Swarthmore before a dropping a 10-8 final in its second of back-to-back games Sunday against Salisbury. The Diplomats raced out to an early lead against Catholic who came into that contest receiving votes in the national contest before holding on in the second half. F&M completely controlled the Centennial Conference victory against Swarthmore by an 18-5 . The Diplomats were also tied at eight-all late against the nationally-ranked Sea Gulls before Salisbury struck twice in the final minutes.
Last Time vs. McDaniel
Eight different Diplomats scored multiple goals as the sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-10 victory at home versus McDaniel during the team's Centennial Conference opener. The Diplomats led 8-2 after the first period and never looked back during the conference victory. Marissa McGarrey led the scoring outburst as she scored four goals and added two more assists. Maddy Birch also had a big four-point game with three goals and one assist. Madison Bray, Lydia Cassilly, Gillian Brennan, Kate McLam, Sydney Lowe, and Ally Marino each had two goals during the win.
The Diplomats racked up a 36-25 advantage in shots throughout the contest. Despite the multitude of shots, F&M was still very efficient on the attack as the team scored on 20 of its 24 shots on goal. Emily Kitchin made seven saves on the Green Terror's first 12 shots on goal before Alyssa Moran finished out the final 20 minutes in net with two more saves. In addition to leading the offensive efforts, Birch and McGarrey each caused a pair of turnovers as the Green Terror were held to just 10-of-17 on their clear attempts. Kitchin led the team with three ground balls, with Birch and McGarrey each adding two more to the Diplomats' 15-11 advantage in that category.
Last Time vs. Ursinus
The No. 2 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team scored early and often during its 18-4 Centennial Conference victory at Ursinus during the 2022 season. The win marked the Diplomats' 12 consecutive victory. Gillian Brennan had a career day with five goals and two assists for seven points. Helping to put the attack in motion all afternoon was Lydia Cassilly. The first-year finished with six points as five of those came on assists. Marissa McGarrey added a second hat trick to the Diplomats' attack, while Kate McLam, Sydney Lowe, and Ally Marino each scored twice and added one assist for three points of their own. Franklin & Marshall recorded the first 17 goals of that contest as the Bears did not crack the scoreboard until the 2:11 mark of the third quarter.
McGarrey, Marino, and McLam each tallied twice during the opening 15 minutes, while Cassilly additionally converted her free-position chance. Brennan got her huge day started with three goals in the second, in addition to Sarah Delaney, Bridget Kane, and Sydney Lowe adding their names to the scoresheet. Franklin & Marshall held a 33-8 advantage in shots after 45 minutes and finished the afternoon with a 35-13 edge in that category. F&M additionally held a 14-9 advantage in draw controls as Ava Turner and Lambeth each controlled four of the restarts. The Diplomats also caused 12 turnovers on the defensive side of the field with Lambeth adding three more CTs to her well-rounded day. Delaney Liston and Mary Pat McKenna each had a pair of caused turnovers. McKenna and Kitchin led F&M with three ground balls.
McDaniel Preview
McDaniel comes into the week with a 4-5 record that has seen the Green Terror split their first two Centennial Conference contests. The Green Terror own a 9-6 victory against Bryn Mawr, but suffered a 21-9 setback during its most recent game against Ursinus. Emma Miller paces McDaniel's attack with 20 goals and is one of five players on that squad who has scored at least 12 times this season. Julia Corry has dished out a team-high 10 assists in addition to her 15 goals. The Green Terror hold a 140-98 advantage over their opponents in draw controls, while three different goalies have combined to stop just 33.5% of the opponent's shots. Caleigh Kohr has seen the bulk of the work for the Green Terror in the cage. Their defense is bolstered by Kendall Gracie who has caused 19 turnovers so far this season.
Ursinus Preview
The Bears are currently .500 on the year (5-5) and in Centennial Conference action (1-1). Ursinus enters the week following back-to-back 18-3 and 21-9 wins against Gwynedd Mercy and McDaniel, respectively. Reilly Morgan and Grace Lynch have each scored 25 goals, with Maeve Leonzi and Julia McCann each added 20 more to a side that is scoring just under 15 goals per game. McCann additionally has 52 draw controls on the year to help the Bears hold a team advantage of 151-129 in that category. Alexa Machada has started all 10 games and is stopping nearly 45 percent of the shots that she has faced.
