Last Time Out

Franklin & Marshall is coming off of a 1-1 week against two of the top contenders in the Centennial Conference. The Diplomats were tripped up in a top 10 battle last Wednesday against Gettysburg as the Bullets came away with a 14-5 victory under the lights of Shadek Stadium. Gettysburg went in front early with an 8-1 advantage and never looked back despite multiple goals from both Maddy Birch and Lane Lambeth.

The Diplomats did however get the inside track to the a first round bye and home semifinal game in the Centennial Conference Tournament a come-from-behind 16-14 Senior Day win against Haverford. Maddy Birch had a huge Senior Day with four goals and three assists, while Gillian Brennan added three goals and one assist. Sydney Lowe and Madison Bray added multiple goals to the winning side. Haverford had a more focused scoring attack as three different players recorded hat tricks, including four goals from Tiffany Mikulis.

Last Time vs. Dickinson

Dickinson marked the home finale to the 2022 regular season as the then-No. 4 Diplomats took a 16-12 victory under the lights. The Diplomats were doubling up the Red Devils at the end of three quarters before Dickinson closed the deficit to just four goals in the fourth. Lydia Cassilly and Ally Marino both registered hat tricks throughout the victory, with Sydney Lowe, Maddy Birch, and Lane Lambeth also tallying two goals each. Madison Bray had a well-rounded game with three assists in addition her team-leading nine draw controls. Bray accounted for half of the team's possessions off the restarts as F&M held an 18-14 edge in draw controls as a team. The Diplomats finished the contest with a 39-27 advantage in shots.

The Red Devils hung with the nationally-ranked Diplomats for much of the first half, trailing just 6-5 after the opening 15 minutes. Dickinson held its only lead of the night at 4-3 before the Diplomats scored seven of the next nine goals spanning into the second quarter. F&M continued to pour on the goals during the second period with Maisie O'Shea, Marino, Birch, and Cassilly making it a 10-7 score at the break. The Diplomats' strongest quarter came out of the halftime intermission as the hosts scored the only four goals of that period. The fourth quarter saw Emily Mooney match F&M's game-high seven goal lead before Maddy Birch closed the scoring with 1:26 remaining in regulation. 

Last Time vs. Bryn Mawr

Nine different players scored during the 2022 matchup which saw the Diplomats sport their No. 2 national ranking for the first time last year in a 16-3 victory over Bryn Mawr. The win marked 10 straight for F&M. Madison Bray recorded the first hat trick of her career, while Gillian Brennan matched that scoring output to tie her career high for the fifth time. Lane Lambeth, Sydney Lowe, and three-time Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week Ally Marino each tallied twice in the victory.

F&M's goalies made four saves on the afternoon with each of those four seeing playing time. Reigning IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week Emily Kitchin picked up her first win after making two saves during the first 30 minutes. Alyssa Moran and Molly Donatelli each made a save before Emily Toft came on to close out the remaining minutes. The Diplomats' defense held the visiting Owls to just 11-of-20 of their clear attempts. Eleven different Diplomats finished with a caused turnover, highlighted by Abbi Boehl's three CT performance. In addition to her goal scoring, Bray won three draw controls and was one of seven F&M players with at least three ground balls. Lambeth secured a team-leading four ground balls in the victory.

Dickinson Preview

The Red Devils (9-5, 3-4 CC) are one of five teams currently in the midst of a heated battle for the fourth through eighth position in the Centennial Conference standings. The top six teams make the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time during the 2023 season. Liv Yeagle (33g) and Delaney Herbert (30g) have both cracked the 30 goal mark for Dickinson. Herbert additionally leads the team with 22 assists for a team-best 52 points. Dickinson holds a 210-188 draw control edge on the season, with both Caroline Pirone and Faith Parker gathering over 50 DCs to date. Peyton VanDorpe leads the goalies as she has started all 14 games this season. She is allowing 12.38 goals per game and is stopping 42.5 percent of the shots that she has faced.

Bryn Mawr Preview

The Owls were solid in non-conference action with a 6-2 record, but have since gone 0-7 against Centennial Conference opponents. Camille Franklin leads Bryn Mawr with 30 goals on the season, with Sloan Johnson (28g) and Maya DiFrischla (21g) also among the team leaders. Elizabeth Tompkins is one of the top ground ball performers in the conference with 43, while Morgan Nash has caused a team-best 21 turnovers. As a team, the Owls have caused 123 turnovers and have scooped up 248 ground balls. Goalie Elizabeth Tompkins currently leads the conference in save percentage (.563)  and is allowing 14.43 goals per game.
