School Profile

Course Load

Fair Lawn High School has an eight period day with each period meeting 5 days a week for 45 minutes. All students take a minimum of seven academic periods plus lunch for a total of eight periods daily. Students may elect to take an eighth course in lieu of a lunch period. There are no study halls at FLHS. Pass/Fail courses are not calculated into a student's GPA. GPA is based upon final grades received in each course taken in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 which carry credit. Weighted courses included in the GPA carry the designation of "H" for Honors and "AP" for Advanced Placement.

Class Rank and Grade Point Average

The academic environment of Fair Lawn High School is very challenging and the majority of our students meet the challenge by earning exemplary grades. We believe that individually ranking our students would create an unhealthy and unnecessary competitive culture among our students, and therefore do not report class rank. Individual rank may only be released when required for merit scholarships directly to the school or organization. The range of Grade Point Averages for the class of 2021 is indicated in 10% increments or deciles.
