When you reveal "hidden" jazz improvisation practices, you support students musicians' achievement, self-assessment, self-efficacy, and motivation through:
Guiding students through musical elements and improvisation strategies (introduce, review, reinforce)
Providing cognitive and motivational scaffolds
Making your thinking visible (say what you're doing and what you're thinking)
Modeling (verbally and musically)
Coaching (engage individual students)
Being flexible! This is, above all, a creative pursuit. Make suggestions, but encourage exploration.
