Since the novel was released in 1925, there have been at least five Great Gatsby movies, plus numerous other adaptations.

There was a silent file adaptation made in 1926, one year after the novel was published. Unfortunately, the film to that silent movie has been lost. This is only surviving footage from the 1926 silent movie on The Great Gatsby, which was the first movie released one year after the book. Apparently, F. There is a 1949 black and white movie adaptation of the Great Gatsby directed by Elliott Nugent, staring Alan Ladd as Jay Gatsby, Betty Field as Daisy Buchanan, Macdonald Carey as Nick Carraway, Barry Sullivan as Tom Buchanan, and Ruth Hussey as Jordan Baker. Apparently, this movie spent more time moralizing life in the Roaring Twenties, spending more time on the decadence of the prohibition era than sticking to the Fitzgerald plot in the novel. The movie focused on Jay Gatsby's bootlegging enterprise, gives Jordan a larger role than in the novel, and Nick ends up marrying Jordan. In this version, Nick and Jordan also decide to return together to Nick's hometown in the Midwest. It supposedly rankled Fitzgerald purists. This movie reportedly flopped.

This was an attempt to do the book proper justice. The film featured expensive scenery and elaborate costumes. This is movie is said to be successful, with a beautiful sets, elaborate costumes and good acting. This movie was awarded two Academy Award Oscars for Best Costume Design and Best Original Score, and three British Academy Film Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.

The 2000 adaptation was a made-for-television production which originally aired on A&E. It starred Mira Sorvino as Daisy Buchanan, Paul Rudd as Nick Carraway, Toby Stephens as Jay Gatsby, Martin Donovan as Tom Buchanan, and Francie Swift as Jordan Baker. This production had a lower budget than the 1974 Robert Redford film, had less glamor and glitz, with fewer party scenes. It is reportedly "decently accurate" in terms of following the plot of the Fitzgerald novel, but one critic calls the production "rather lifeless and unenthusiastic," and another critic describes it as "bland." Certainly, it did not have the same star appeal as the 1974 Robert Redford movie. The full movie can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUupvzSOA9I

On the other hand, the Buchanan mansion was filmed at Old Westbury Gardens in Long Island, New York. I find this hilarious because my family drove through the "West Egg" in Great Neck, Long Island looking for a residence that remotely looked like Jay Gatsby's mansion, without any success. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Gatsby_(2013_film) This 2013 movie received two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design, plus three British Academy Film Awards for Best Costume Design, Best Make-up and Hair, and Best Production Design.
