September 11, 2001 was a beautiful morning filled with blue skies and sunshine. The country was absolutely stunned and shocked when an airplane flew into the World Trade Center in New York City. Most people thought it was a horrible accident, until another airplane flew into the second tower, then another flew into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and another was taken down in a field in Pennsylvania. By the end of that morning, both towers at the World Trade Center would collapse from the attacks. Almost 3000 people died that day. Passengers on the planes, workers in the buildings and hundreds of firefighters and police who ran into the towers to rescue people all died from the attacks. The terrorist group Al Qaeda, led by Osama Bin Laden, admitted responsibility and proudly celebrated their attack on the United States. American citizens, either living each moment in the attack locations or watching the live events on TV, would realize in that moment, the world had changed. Life after September 11, 2001 would bring much stricter security at airports, two wars, more terrorist attacks and years of rebuilding. Stories of heroism and hope would hold us all together and unite the country.
