Grades are issued at the end of each quarter (9-week period). Semester final grades are determined by averaging two 9-week quarter grades.
Semester grades are used to determine whether credit was earned. The cumulative grade point average (GPA) is based on the grades earned each semester and will be updated at the end of each semester. All grades earned in grades 9-12 will count in the GPA calculation.
The following grading scale will be used in all classes in the Fairfield City Schools:
Letter Grade Grade Range GPA Value
A+ 98-100 4.3
A 93-97 4.0
A- 90-92 3.7
B+ 87-89 3.3
B 83-86 3.0
B- 80-82 2.7
C+ 77-79 2.3
C 73-76 2.0
C- 70-72 1.7
D+ 67-69 1.3
D 64-66 1.0
F 0-63 0
For College Credit Plus (CCP), Advanced Placement (AP), or Honors (H) courses, additional weight will be added onto the grade point average, if the student earns a C- or above in the designated courses. For full-year classes, .015 will be added to the GPA at the end of each semester. College courses that align with the Honors courses offered at FHS will receive a .03 add-on at the conclusion of the course.
Study skills are the essential student behaviors and habits which ensure successful learning experiences. The ability to study effectively and productively is not something that students are born with; it is a set of skills that are learned. Forming good study skills helps to improve grades and the ability to learn.
A positive attitude is essential to success. Studying doesn't have to be boring, dull, or difficult. Once you learn to study efficiently, you may find your classes becoming easier and even more fun!
