online safety tips at home
Always make sure a responsible adult is supervising your child's iPad use. If you are unable to find a supervising adult, then use the Downtime feature in Settings to turn off the iPad during specific hours when you are not around, especially at night time if her iPad is in her room.
If possible, it is highly recommended to not create a social media account for your child under the age of 13. The content and users on these sites are designed for adults over the age of 18.
If you allow your child to have a social media account, make sure that you share the account and are the owner of the account. Monitor their activity regularly. Know all of the friends that your child has added on any social media account.
Create screen free zones. No iPads/devices allowed in the bedroom. No iPads/devices after a certain hour.
Make friends in real life and spend time in nature each day. Go to Settings App > Screentime to customize how much time they can spend on Entertainment Apps per day.
Create a habit of having positive regular conversations with your child about their online life - text messages, games, social media, emails, and balancing screen time. Encourage your child to come to you right away when they identify a problem and focus on developing open lines of communication with your child.
Model appropriate online behaviors.
