About Me

My name is Vanessa Manzano and I teach chemistry at Fabens High School. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I am currently in my 4th year of teaching and I look forward to making science interesting for all my students.

Course Overview

In Chemistry, students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific practices during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students study a variety of topics that include characteristics of matter, use of the Periodic Table, development of atomic theory and chemical bonding, chemical stoichiometry, gas laws, solution chemistry, thermochemistry, and nuclear chemistry. Students will investigate how chemistry is an integral part of our daily lives.

In Quarter 2, students will cover the following topics:

  • Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table

  • Chemical Bonding

  • Chemical Formulas

  • Chemical Equations and Reactions

In the Classroom

Measurement Lab

Students learned more about accuracy and precision by using various tools in the chemistry lab.

"Beanium" Isotope Lab

Students participated in lab to further their understanding on percent abundance and average atomic mass by making comparisons between real isotope data and "beanium" isotope data.

To the right is a resource that was used in class for students to learn more about the structure of an atom and the symbols used in chemistry. Feel free to give it a try!
