The question of morality through Lord of the Flies is quite complicated. Morality comes into question since there is no law or order, there is constant anarchy and failed politics. So the question of morality is based on who is the strongest fighter. A few questions that can be posed are: is it moral to succumb to the strongest fighter to save your own life and live with deception, or do you sacrifice your life for truth? Characters like Piggy who used intellect and science in order to benefit the group was made a common enemy throughout the book so he was murdered by Roger. The moment that Piggy was killed was when he was discussing with the rest of the group the fact that they may be on the island for the remainder of their lives so they should learn to get along, this resulted in his murder. He sacrificed his life trying to convey to the other boys a very real possibility. Two other boys Sam and Eric did not sacrifice their lives in order to face the truth that Jack and his hunters were murderers. They were tortured and forced to remain underneath Jack's rule. This does not make them evil, this does not make them morally wrong, they were simply doing what they could to preserve their lives. The lines of what was moral and what was amoral were skewed so badly that boys turned into savages, and it isn't until the end of the book that Ralph realizes what they have lost and what they have become.
