Shahala Middle School Relay Challenge

Shahala Middle School will be holding a Relay Challenge on February 12th! The event was organized by a Shahala Alum and current UHS student. Parents can sign the permission form and register student(s) on a team on Parent Square, where information was posted earlier today. 

Tutoring for Shahala Students

Union High School’s National Honor Society is hosting tutoring sessions on Sunday evenings, from 5-8pm in the UHS cafeteria. Click here to find out more!

Tutoring for multi-lingual students will continue to take place on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30pm in Portable 521. 

Dropping Off Food and Drinks

We have had an increase in students missing instructional class time to come get food or drinks that have been dropped off in the front office. We kindly ask parents to only drop off food or drinks during your student(s) lunchtime or passing period. To minimize disruption, students are only permitted to come get their food items at these times.

Telecommunications Policy

As a reminder, telecommunication devices like cell phones and smart watches should be silent and away during school hours. Students who need to contact their parents for any reason should come to the front office to use their phone or the student phone. We appreciate your cooperation in reminding your students not to text from class during the school day.

Safety Reminder: School Zone Driving

We want to ensure the safety of every community member during the busy drop-off and pick-up windows. Please keep the following points in mind when driving on or near campus:

• Slow Down: Please maintain a low speed at all times. Kids can be unpredictable and may step into the road unexpectedly.

• Every Corner is a Crosswalk: In the state of Washington, every intersection is considered a legal crosswalk - even if there are no painted lines or signs. Please treat every corner as a pedestrian crossing and yield to those waiting to pass.

• Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like cell phones. Keep your eyes on the road and the sidewalks to account for all our walkers.

Save the Date! 8th Grade Farewell Celebration

On Thursday, June 18th, we will be celebrating with our 8th grade students from 1:30 PM to 4:05 PM at Shahala Middle School. The cost of this event is $20.00. Each $20.00 ticket includes a trip to the Kona Ice Truck, a special dessert, unlimited activities and games with prizes, and a photo booth & free pictures. Students will also have a BBQ lunch option, and we will have a special motivational guest speaker. Shahala student behavior expectations apply at this event. More information will be coming out later in the Spring about this event.  

Please note that this has been pushed back one day due to the school closure on 12/17/2025. The date is subject to additional change due to possible future snow days.

Reminder: Accompanying Adult Required for Students at After School Events

Parents and guardians - please keep in mind that all students must be accompanied by a responsible adult for all after school events. This includes any sports games, meets, or tournaments. If the responsible adult leaves early, then the student(s) must leave with them. 

Running Club is coming!

Wrestling season kicks off on February 23, 2026!

Wrestling season for our boys' and girls' team in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade starts on February 23, 2026! If you're not cleared through the ASB office, do so now using this link. You must also have a current sports physical from your doctor on file. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED, and you only wrestle others at your own weight. Our goal is to have the biggest team in the league, so come out and bring a friend!

If you’d like to order your own gear, visit our online uniform store. Please note that items may take 4–8 weeks to arrive. This is optional, as we also have gear available for everyone to use during the season. The only thing wrestlers need to get themselves are wrestling shoes and a mouthguard (only required if you have braces).
