Teachers
BAND DIRECTOR
Scott Winks received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Idaho and a Master of Science, Teaching from Portland State University. Scott has taught in the Evergreen Public School since 2001 when Shahala was a new school in the district.
Scott has been a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years and is a freelance musician in the greater Portland, Oregon area. His main instrument is the trumpet. He also enjoys mountain biking on local trails and touring the back roads of Washington and Oregon on his motorcycle. Spending quality time with his family is his favorite thing to do.
At Shahala, Scott Teaches Jazz Band, as well as 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands. He also teaches 5th grade beginning band at Fisher's Landing Elementary and 5th grade beginning orchestra at Columbia Valley Elementary.
In the music department at Shahala, we strive to teach students that music has the ability to contribute to the quality of life in our school community through performing in school and public concerts.
BAND DIRECTOR
Mark Davey was raised in Longview, Washington. He graduated from Kelso High School and studied at Mt. Hood Community College. He graduated with his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas. He also achieved a M.A.T. degree from the University of Portland.
Mark has taught band in the Evergreen School District for 32 years. Currently, he teaches band in grades 5 through 8. He also teaches the Stage Band and coaches small ensembles.
Mark plays the saxophone, flute, clarinet, and other instruments to name just a few. He is involved in musical ensembles throughout the area, and has been a member of the popular dance band “5 Guys Named Moe” for 25 years.
Mark is married to his wife Paula, and they have two kids, Allyson and Kevin.
