Many thanks to the Better Places Committee: their detailed feedback helped shape & refine these documents!
This document is a simple list of all the activities we do and don't want to sell to travellers. It summarises the rules from the Code of Conduct, the Animal Policy, and the Child Protection Policy.
Starting in 2020 all agents will be expected to follow these guidelines.
Better trips require extraordinary experiences for travellers and better outcomes for locals communities and the environment. This Code of Conduct represents the attitudes and actions that Evaneos considers to be minimum operating standards for all Local Partner Agencies and is based off of recommendations from the United Nations and the International Labor Organisation.
This Code of Conduct will be officially included in DMC contracts as a requirement for all agencies starting in 2020.
In agreeing to the Code of Conduct, local partner agencies also agree to follow our Animal Policy. This policy follows recommendations from ABTA, World Animal Protection, and Animondial and outlines the conditions required for good treatment of animals in captivity, working animals, and animals in the wild. Additionally it lists activities that should never be sold to Evaneos travellers.
Later this year we will introduce a child protection policy with a training program for all local partner agencies.
Additionally we will participate in the new Orphanage Tourism Taskforce established by the UK government to solve the problem of local children being presented as attractions for tourists and ‘projects’ for volunteers. The Taskforce is a public/private sector initiative led by ABTA and the award-winning international charity: Hope and Homes for Children.
