d.a.r.e Role models visit elementary schools

D.A.R.E. Role Models - On January 13th and January 18th, two groups of HS students visited Greenvale and Anne Hutch Schools with EPD Officer Jeyfer Chacon (EHS graduate) and Coach Meaney. The HS students spoke with the 5th grade DARE students, taking part in a panel style discussion, as part of the D.A.R.E. Role model lesson.  The High School students spoke honestly and candidly to the classes about some of the pressures they may face as MS/HS students, how to stay true to themselves, and the power of making good decisions.

Wellness Club and smoothie day

On February 2nd and 3rd the Wellness Club hosted Smoothie Day in the cafeteria. The club members sold fresh smoothies during all four lunch periods and provided copies of the recipes to those interested.  They prepared for Smoothie Day by visiting local grocery stores and asking for donations for the event. Overall, it was a wonderful two days; the club members worked hard and the students and staff got a healthy, tasty treat!

EGO DEC-FEB HIGHLITES

EGO’s Annual Toy Drive

This year’s annual toy drive was the biggest success yet! Eastchester High School collected one thousand and eight toys that are all going to be donated to the Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers. This was the largest amount of toys collected, and it definitely made the holiday season much more meaningful. The chairs for this event were Hannah Bermingham, Emerson Nargi, Ryan Deasy, and James Allison. Co-chair person Hannah Bermingham says, “I believe that putting posters up and making announcements at lunch went well in terms of spreading the word, I also thought the extra credit was a great way to get people to donate toys. A change we can make next year is having individuals talk to people face to face so that there is a sense of urgency to donate.” Students had about a 3 week period to donate as many toys as possible, and some teachers offered extra credit for those who brought in toys. Though, strictly, no stuffed animals or toys were allowed. After the event, a ‘Thank You’ letters were written to all those who helped support the toy drive. This was a big success, and EGO can’t wait for next year’s toy drive to try and collect even more toys!

Stockings For Soldiers

EGO’s annual Stocking for Soldiers event was another great success! If you are unaware, ‘Stockings for Soldiers’ is an event where EGO gathers a bunch of necessities like food, hygienic products, games, etc, for our soldiers. They put them into Christmas stockings and they are delivered to soldiers abroad. This year the chairs' people were Chiara Luka and Krisitie Warnock and EGO filled a total of 61 stockings! Krisite Warnock says, “Our team always loves working together at our annual holiday party to help make as many stockings as possible, and it’s an amazing team effort and activity each year. All in all, everyone had fun and EGO hopes that the soldiers who received their stockings feel appreciated and loved.”

Winter Spirit Week

Eastchester High School’s winter spirit week consisted of many relaxed, easy themes but almost everyone showed their school spirit! The spirit week was from February 13th to Friday the 17th, the week right before winter break. Monday was jersey day, where everyone wore their favorite team jerseys. On Tuesday the 14th, students wore colors associated with Valentine's day to show their love for the holiday. People came dressed in pink and red. Monochrome or groutfit day was on Wednesday. Students were meant to dress in one solid color only. An all-time fan favorite is pajama day, which was on Thursday. And last but not least, students showed their love for EHS by wearing eagle merch on Friday. The cafeteria was also decorated for Valentines Day with pink and red decorations and hearts on the windows. It definitely felt like there was love in the air.
